What’s the point of this website?

I decided to start a website because I love the Lord and I’d like to share His goodness with others. I’ve thought about starting a website for a while, but the past year has really provided the impetus for doing so due to the fact that this past year has been one of the most interesting years of my life. I was accepted into a doctoral program in January 2020, COVID-19 changed our world in March 2020, our church shut down for 11 straight weeks, and today people are still incredibly disconnected. As I write this, we’re actually in the middle of a winter storm! And so it seemed an appropriate time to get started.

Before becoming a Christian I was an atheist and wanted absolutely nothing to do with God or His Church. C.S. Lewis once described himself, when he had formerly been an atheist, as being very angry with God for not existing. I didn’t read that quote until a few years after being born again in Christ, but that summed up how I felt almost perfectly.

So why start a website? For me, there are three main reasons:

  1. Because I want to help, teach, encourage, and lead others in knowing Jesus Christ. There are a lot of difficult questions in life, but in Christ we find all the answers. I hope this website will help through the ministry that’s provided. Whether it be a sermon, a blog post, a video, or a helpful comment, my prayer is that this website would help others in growing closer to Jesus Christ (or coming to know Him from out of unbelief!).
  2. Because there is a lot of content in our world today and a lot of it is unhelpful. There is a lot of negativity online and, for me, social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and others are not a place where one’s soul can find nourishment. Not only that, but there is a lot of empty positivity / inspirational websites that provide shallow cliches for how people can be happy, “grow,” etc. I want to provide content that will truly feed the soul from God’s Word.
  3. Because I need a way to exercise my mind, and I feel that maintaining this website will hold me accountable in doing that. There will be posts, I’m sure, that are just for fun, some that are very serious, some where I offer critiques, and some where I offer encouragement. My hope is that people will reap an eternal benefit from everything here, and be challenged to think seriously about things we’d sometimes rather not think about.

So what will you find on this website?

  • I plan to post my sermons, or at least links to my sermons, on this website. Hopefully I can embed a sermon player into the site itself, but I’m not that tech-savvy. Sermons are currently available on YouTube and Apple Podcasts.
  • I plan to maintain the blog, which will likely consist of:
    • Theological arguments
    • Logical arguments
    • Thoughts on life
    • Thoughts on church
    • Encouragements
    • Bible Studies
    • Public journaling

I can’t promise that you’ll like this website, but I hope that for the majority of people it will be informative and encouraging. And for those who would disagree, or those coming from a non-faith or anti-faith perspective, I hope you’ll keep an open mind as you read and watch the content here. Since I met Jesus I’ve kept an open mind. If Jesus wasn’t the Way, the Truth, and the Life I’d want to know. I continue to keep an open mind in the quest for truth, but there has been no valid argument to discredit the Lord, and at the end of the day how could I ever reject or turn away from the God I know personally and Who knows me? I would ask that, if you’re skeptical, you keep an open mind as well and be kind should you choose to interact. God bless you!
